Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s the perfect time to begin planning your outdoor adventures for the season. Camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing are all summertime favorites in the United States. More than 43 million people go camping each year, around 38 million go hiking, and another 38 million like to hunt and fish, as well. If you’re planning on taking part in any of these activities, it is crucial that you have the right supplies for your trip.

How can you assess your hunting, hiking, and camping needs? Here’s a simple checklist you can use to start preparing:

Camping Gear

Most people know that when you go camping you need a tent, but what else should you have? Sleeping bags and backpacks, if you’re planning to hike a bit, are important. You should also bring plenty of food and water, and take a first aid kit with you in case of any emergencies, from bug bites to cuts and scrapes. For the most part, you should be able to find all of your camping supplies at a sporting goods store.

Hiking Gear

Hiking is a versatile activity because it can be done over several days during a camping trip or it can be a quick afternoon activity. No matter how long you’re planning to hike, make sure that you have appropriate adventure clothing and other assorted hiking gear. Clothes should be loose and comfortable and light-colored to avoid absorbing too much heat during the day. You should also have appropriate footwear for all terrains. As with camping, make sure that you have a backpack with food, water, and medical supplies.

Fishing and Hunting Gear

For fishing, make sure to have the right bait and tackle, and figure out how much fishing line you’ll need for a particular fishing rod. If you’re going out on the water, don’t forget your life vest in case you fall out of your boat. Hunting supplies can also be purchased at a sporting goods store, and this category can include everything from weapons and tree stands to traps and scents. You should also have appropriate clothing for hunting in order to stay safe if there are other hunters around.
