Americans love to run — and for many reasons. A survey of 3,500 runners revealed that 54% of runners do it for fitness purposes. Forty percent of runners on the same survey claim that they do it specifically to lose weight. Running has demonstrably positive health benefits. Running for 45 to 60 minutes a day, for example, can reduce your blood pressure by 10 to 12 mgs. Moreover, running can aid in weight loss and improve your cardiovascular system. Running has also been shown to increase one’s life expectancy by as much as six years. With benefits like these, it is no wonder millions of Americans flock to the streets and to the racetracks.
And flock they do. According to a 2012 study, more than 57 million Americans ran or jogged at least once that year. Every year, there are thousands of marathons, half-marathons, and 5K events hosted in the country. Running may not get the attention it deserves but it is ironically one of the most popular sports in the United States today.
Running is so popular, in fact, that an entire industry (a rather small one but still) has developed around it. Personalized gifts for runners provide hundreds of items that runners can enjoy both on and off the track. From recovery sandals and running shoes to running necklace charms and running decals, gifts for a runner is a thriving area of athletic business products. Chances are you know at least one person (a friend, a co-worker, a relative, etc.) who likes to run. Why not surprise them with recovery sandals so they can rest their feet after a long race? Why not give them a pair of runners beer mugs to lighten up their mood? There are many more products that cater to runners, each one of them special in their own right.
